ABOUT US

The Cayman Islands Astronomical Society (CIAS) has been bringing together people with an interest in astronomy since 1991. With a goal of promoting astronomy to the public, we hold free star gazing events open to everyone once a month at sites around the Cayman Islands. We are also delighted to visit schools or other charitable organisations for star evenings, as educational outreach to the public about astronomy is our main focus.

Our Facebook page at: www.facebook.com/caymanastronomy/ will show the next upcoming session or astronomical event.

Mr. Tiyen Miller is our President, previous Presidents were: Richard McLeod, Chris Cooke, Nick Kelly, George Ebanks and Peter Jackson. CIAS was set up officially as a non-profit organisation by Sian Jennings in 1991. In 2018 CIAS was officially registered as a Non-Profit Organization, our registration number is NP-358.

The society is in possession of a range of equipment, including portable 12 inch and 10 inch Dobsonian reflector telescopes and a Lunt Solar telescope.

Planets are only visible at certain times of the year, so if you like to know which planets are visible at the next session go back to the Menu and select "Interactive Sky Chart".
